Hawk Announced as New FFA CEO

Mt Gravatt Hawks FC was delighted to hear the announcement this morning that ex Hawk, James Johnson will be the Football Federation Australia's (FFA) next CEO.

James is expected to take up office in January 2020, after the departure of the former CEO, David Gallop.

Football is in James’ soul and Hawks FC is proud to have played it's part in James' football life . He has demonstrated that he is a collaborative leader and team player and brings global and local experience and networks to the FFA. Importantly he also understands the importance of developmental pathways and the grass roots of the code having on the ground experience representing Australia as a member of the 1999 U17 “Joeys” National Team and having risen through the ranks of football in Queensland in the 1990’s.

James has inarguably made a meaningful contribution to football globally. A lawyer by training, throughout his executive career, James has been at the centre of many major industry negotiations, managing multi-stakeholder situations and projects including currently representing Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) within the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and European Clubs Association (ECA) bodies in the ongoing reforms to the competition format, match calendar, financial distribution model and qualification pathway to the UEFA Champions League.

Club President, Mark Brittain said "a massive congratulations from Mt Gravatt Hawks FC on James’ appointment and one which we believe will not only be great for the sport, but also a defining moment in Australian Football."

"Also congratulations to Garry and Maureen and the entire Johnson clan who have had a long association with Hawks FC as Players, Coaches and Officials and their contribution to the sport of football, which will now extend to influencing and shaping the code in Australia".

Brittain further stated, "this is another proud moment in our club’s history as we’ve had several Socceroos and Matilda’s come from our club and now a CEO of the FFA".
